Important information

Visa requirements

France is part of the Schengen Area.

For the persons who live out of the Schengen Area, a valid passport must be presented.

Currency

France’s currency is Euro. Abbreviation: EUR

Banknote denominations: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 Euros
Coins: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 Cents, 1 and 2 Euros

Foreign currencies may be exchanged at banks or authorized exchange offices. International airports and larger hotels also offer currency exchange services.

Major credit cards including American Express, Mastercard and Visa are accepted in large hotels, car rental companies and stores in the main cities.

Transport in Paris

Paris’public transportation network includes: bus, tram and metro. Tickets must be purchased beforehand and validated upon boarding. Travelers may be asked to show the validated ticket during the trip.

Tickets or passes can be purchased at distributors in all metro stations.

Taxis:

Taxis are an affordable alternative to public transport. A 15 minutes journey will only cost about €10.00. Licensed Taxis have to charge you the amount displayed on the meter. Rates will be displayed inside the cab.

Tipping is welcomed but not required. If you wish to give a tip give 5 to 10% of the taxi fare.

Official Parisian Taxis are available for hire when a green illuminated light on the top of the Taxi is on.

Climate

April is the season where Paris seems to reawaken, with its avenues fringed with new green shoots and its trees in flower. The days are getting longer, as are the opening times of museums, and the high season is just around the corner. There’s a holiday feeling in the air and the sweet smell of candy floss pervades the pathways of the Foire du Trône funfair. People venture out and about in the parks and gardens and along the river banks, strolling, cycling or skating.
